The Valleyhaven Retirement Home in Chilliwack BC asked our club if we would again attend their complex with our cars so their attendees could have a chance to view some of the cars they once saw or in many cases once owned in the past.
As it turned out, this year ended up being on Friday the 13th which by the way, is the only Friday the 13th this year. The group was asked to gather at Lot 7 of UFV by 9:30am and by that time there was 10 cars, including an actual “black cat” … a beautiful well-maintained black Jaguar XJ.
The organizer, John and Mervi Warlimont weren’t that familiar with the roads in Chilliwack, so Harv and Shirley McCullough were asked to lead the parade to the retirement home which is located close to the Chilliwack Hospital.
Upon arrival at the retirement home at 10:00am, four more cars joined the parade of cars making up a grand total of 14 cars on display. Cars were parked in a manner so there was lots of room for wheelchair access around the cars. There were lots of attendees from the home out looking at our cars. It was also neat to see how the staff of the Home would wheel each person in a wheelchair around and introduce them to the owner of their car, if the owner was there at that time. There was a nice mixture of cars including the “black cat” [Jaguar]; David McNary’s very unique car; a couple TR’s; and the rest were a mixture of MG models and years.
At noon, the staff of Valleyhaven provided hamburgers, chips and drinks for us. They had tables setup within their facility so we could sit down and enjoy the wonderful lunch they provided for us. In short … it appeared to be a fun and grand day for both us car owners; the attendees and staff of the retirement home.
