In response to a general invitation to the membership to attend the annual visit to the ValleyHaven Retirement Home in Chilliwack on Friday, for 14 June, ten affirmative replies were received.
Given the uncertain weather, the Home advised that space could be made available in the underground staff parking area. This was just as well as, by the 11:00am arrival time, it was overcast with a few spots of rain. Arrivals were directed down the ramp and lined up in the stalls marked off for our possible use. In all eight cars came, four being saloons and four being soft-tops, all top-down.
Given the weather, the barbeque lunch was served inside and then the residents came down to see the cars. It was clear that, for some, the various models brought back memories of similar ones owned at one time or another, and for others, it was memories of road trips made including ones from coast to coast. So, the visit was a success and fulfilled its purpose of bringing some gladness and sunshine back into twilight years….
By the time it was time to leave, we drove up the ramp into a nice afternoon with blue sky and cottonwool clouds, so it was worth the chance taken by one and all to come out in what initially appeared to be not a very promising day.
