In mid-July a message was circulated to all members concerning forming a list of those interested in going on Impulse Runs, these to be done on two days’ notice to a declared destination. 19 replies were received.
On Saturday, 29 August a text was circulated advising a Run was planned for Tuesday, 01 August to Cascade Falls with lunch at the Mission Station Grill. Meet-up for Chilliwack area members would be at UFV carpark # 7, 10:25:am for a 10:30am start. For Abbotsford members it would be at Lepp Farm Market, 11:15am for an 11:30am start along with the Chilliwack contingent.
On the Tuesday, 4 cars came to UFV carpark # 7 and duly set of at 10:30am. They took Keith Wilson to Road # 2 and then Interprovincial and Road # 3 to the North Parallel to go over Sumas Mountain and on to Lepp Farm Market. By 11:40am, 10 Abbotsford area cars had assembled and the whole gathering of 14 cars set off for the Falls. Things were bit slow getting out of Mission on 7th St. due to roadworks. Then the route was on Stave Lake St., Dale Rd. and Sylvester Rd. to the Falls parking lot. Some 2km up Stave Lake St., after the dog-leg on Dewdney Trunk, it was noticed that some cars were missing, and, after a few minutes pull-over, they still had not come. It turned out that they had missed the dog-leg and had carried on Dewdney trunk to reach Route 7 and had then decided to carry on east to take Sylvester Rd. where it starts. They reached the Falls before the main contingent arrived at 12.25pm and one car had had to drop out as a call from home requested his return.
Some folk decided to take the trail to the Falls. This was a pleasantly cool walk through the woods on a gravelled path, steep at times. There were some steps to the final viewing platform and suspension bridge in front of the Falls. A couple of swimmers were seen in the pool under the Falls – it must have been a refreshing if somewhat chilly dip.
The return drive started at 1:10pm and was planned as straight down Sylvester Rd. to Route 7 and then into Mission for lunch. A couple of cars took a different route. On arrival at the Mission Station Grill, a notice at the front door advised closure from 30 July to 8 August for staff holidays. This was a bit of a surprise as there was no mention of this on the website nor when the advice of our intended visit was given. After discussion, some cars decided to leave for home and seven decided to go on to the Mission Springs Brewery. The menu offered quite a choice of food and beers; everyone found something to their taste and departed, well-satisfied, around 2:45pm.
