Fun Run 2024

The 2024 Fun Run was set by Doug Holbrow and Ivan Antak.  The day dawned as a clear blue sky and stayed so all day.  As usual the start was at McDonald Park. Ivan had 26 copies of the route to hand out and, by the 10:30am start, he had 6 left, so, presuming each car had one, there were 19 cars participating of which 13 were open two-seaters and 6 were saloons, 5 with air conditioning. This must have been appreciated as by the end of the run, it was some 32 deg C.

The route took us along the N. Parallel to Road # 4, then along McDermott back to the N. Parallel, round onto Kilgard, up over Sumas Mountain and across to Route 11 to the Matsqui Prairie and The Barn at Doug’s on Seldon for a pit stop. The second leg took us back to Clayburn village and a right onto Wright to wend our way to Laburnum and Old Clayburn, McKee and down Whatcom to Vye. Then it was a zig-zag westward to Majuba Hill and back to Yarrow to the McClures for a barbeque lunch. The overall distance was some 60km.

Along the way there were a variety of observational questions to be answered, most of which were about things in plain sight. There were also a variety of questions on British road use esoterica along with some on several British comedy series and rhyming slang. During the lunch Doug announced the results. Tom and Marilyn Pugh were the overall winners on the questions and Michael and Renée Hamilton-Clark scored highest on the rhyming slang. Dan and Connie Brien were the winners of the 2024 Fun Run and will be awarded with putting the run together in 2025. As a new twist, Doug handed out awards accordingly. These were large glass goblets with award items and winners names printed on white tape.

Everyone got round safely and the lunch was well-attended. Many thanks to Doug and Ivan for setting an interesting route and devising the various questions and many thanks to the Bill and Joanne McClure for the barbeque and their hospitality.
