Car Run: September 30th, 2020 Cheam Lake Wetlands Regional Park

2020 Run # 4 – Wednesday, 30 September 2020 to Cheam Lake Wetlands Regional Park

The Run was scheduled to have been on Sunday, 27 September, but the weather forecast was indicating overcast and rain with sunny and dry a few days later, so it was moved to Wednesday, 30 September. That day started out with signs of a smoke haze which, thankfully, seemed to lighten as the day progressed. The Chilliwack start was from the new location in the Cottonwood Mall parking and by 10:30am there were six cars and a start wasmade. As we made our way round the bend off N. 3 road onto the N. Parallel, a yellow Triumph TR4 was noticed parked on the verge of the main highway. Was he one of ours? He took off and came along parallel with our group and we could see that it was Jay Schermererhorn from Yarrow. He carried on along the highway and up through Abbotsford to the Lepp Farm Market meeting point. By 11:30am there were ten cars there, with pride of place going to Doug and Geraldine Charles with their 1961 Jaguar E-type. We set off for the main leg of the Run up Route 11 to Mission, then east on Route 7 to Agassiz and a short bit of Route 9 southwards over the Agassiz bridge. We turned onto Yale Road East to follow the signs to the destination at Cheam Lake Wetlands Regional Park, arriving by 12.40pm. There were no incidents and there were numerous glimpses of the Autumn colours starting to show. At the Regional Park there was plenty of parking but cars were scattered, so we could not get a line-up alongside Harv and Shirley McCullough who’d come with their Jaguar S-type to join for the picnic lunch. We all managed to find seating – socially distanced – at the various trestle tables to enjoy our picnic lunches and the lakeside scenery backed by Mt. Cheam and the Dogshead – already a trace of snow here and there. Packing up and leaving was under way by 2:00pm, with folks making their own way back home. All agreed it had been a nice run and a fitting end to the 2020 Runs.
