2023 – Cascades Care Home – 18 August

As part of his organizing work for the 2023 Car Show, Bruce Webster was contacted by The Cascades Community and Retirement Home at 45586 McIntosh Drive in Chilliwack. With the Show having been cancelled, interest was expressed in the Club bringing along 10 to 12 of our cars for the residents to view. Arrangements were put in hand and a visit was finalized for 10:00am to 1:00pm on 18 August. Club members were advised accordingly and 12 positive replies were received.  Just prior to the event two members advised they would be unable to attend and a third did not come, but even so, of the nine cars on show there was a reasonable mix of marques and models. The weather was fine with blue sky and, after a bit of a chilly start, rising to 23deg C. The Home had laid on coffee and muffins on arrival. Quite a few residents came out and some were clearly happy to be taking trips down Memory Lane, recounting youthful ownerships and a variety of attributes, particularly “fun and games” with electrics on MGB’s….. At mid-day the Home provided hot dogs, crisps and softs. Some members took a table in the shade, others took advantage of a pleasantly moderate sunny spot out on a bench. The residents were also at lunch and an enquiry indicated that those who wanted to see the cars would probably have come already, so we could leave when we wanted; the visit was ended around 12:30pm.  Given the turn-out and interesting conversations, the visit was clearly a success and much appreciated, with a visit next year being requested.
